国家大剧院制作威尔第歌剧《茶花女》(四)

导赏国家大剧院著名的“镜花水月版”威尔第歌剧《茶花女》,一向以其眩目的巨幅镜面反映地面的华丽图案和倒置的舞台人物而令观众称奇叫绝。首演时被赋予旗手重任的指挥大师洛林·马泽尔老迈年高,英雄迟暮,音乐迟慢,一直是“镜版“的遗憾。2016年4月20日至24日,这出威尔第大戏将再度上演,本轮最大的看点将肯定不是舞台上而是乐池中,中国爱乐乐团在余隆的率领下,将在大剧院开张的第八个年头首次走进大剧院的乐池,由此开启中国爱乐与国家大剧院之间公开的正式合作关系,其意义绝不仅仅在这五场歌剧演出,届时,定将成为轰动一时的古典音乐界新闻。《茶花女》对于余隆和中国爱乐都不是陌生曲目,但初次坐进大剧院歌剧院乐池会有什么样的表现,还是会让人有很高的好奇心的,毕竟前面是有马泽尔令人难忘的演绎作为对照。这几场戏,有戏看!(李澄,《北京晨报》首席记者,乐评人)

宋元明,旅奥女高音。曾参演国家大剧院制作歌剧《蝙蝠》《图兰朵》《艺术家的生涯》《意大利女郎在阿尔及尔》《骆驼祥子》《威廉·退尔》《日出》《这里的黎明静悄悄》。

以特优双硕士毕业于维也纳国立音乐与表演艺术大学“歌剧与轻歌剧”及“艺术歌曲与清唱剧”,师从弗兰茨·卢卡索夫斯基教授,取得声歌系“优秀艺术家”表演专业最高学位。同时毕业于维也纳普莱纳音乐学院长笛专业。任山东艺术学院音乐学院声乐教授,曾获法国图卢兹国际声乐大赛第一名,奥地利“塔利亚维尼”国际声乐比赛“最佳女高音”奖,捷克“德沃夏克”国际声乐比赛第一名及“最佳歌唱家”双奖等六个国际比赛的奖项。在萨尔斯堡国际艺术节、维也纳美泉宫皇家歌剧院、金色大厅玻璃厅、奥地利格拉茨歌剧院、首尔及釜山艺术中心、捷克卡洛维瓦利歌剧院、华盛顿肯尼迪艺术中心、香港大会堂等剧院演出,与维也纳爱乐乐团及穆蒂、巴伦博伊姆和捷杰耶夫等著名指挥家合作过。出演过《唐·璜》、《费加罗的婚礼》、《游吟诗人》等剧目。

宋元明被维也纳文化媒体称之为“是纯正的大抒情女高音,声音统一有磁性,很具潜力的年轻歌唱家。她的演唱相当细致入微,在高声区有非常漂亮的弱音处理。她的声音可塑性极强,柔美而具有力量,能胜任抒情到花腔的歌剧角色。”

国家大剧院驻院歌剧演员,国家一级演员。

在国家大剧院与俄罗斯马林斯基剧院联合制作的柴科夫斯基歌剧《叶甫盖尼·奥涅金》中饰演连斯基,并赴圣彼得堡“白夜艺术节”成功演出。在第三届“中法文化交流之春”开幕演出暨“国家大剧院开幕国际演出季”收官大作——法国歌剧《国王》中饰演将军米里奥。分别在国家大剧院制作的原创歌剧《骆驼祥子》中饰演祥子,并赴意大利成功巡演;原创歌剧《赵氏孤儿》中饰演屠岸贾。在大剧院版瓦格纳歌剧《漂泊的荷兰人》中饰演舵手;威尔第歌剧《奥赛罗》中饰演罗德里格、《茶花女》中饰演加斯顿;特别是在2013年5月与多明戈大师同台主演威尔第歌剧《纳布科》饰演以实玛利。

在二十多年的舞台实践中,作为原中国歌剧舞剧院男高音歌唱家,曾主演三十余部中外歌剧、音乐剧:《红河谷》《原野》《再别康桥》《苏武》《青春之歌》《杨贵妃》《霸王别姬》《热瓦普恋歌》《大舜》《五姑娘》《唐山的龙年》《伤逝》《窦娥冤》《瑶姬传奇》《茶花女》《特里斯坦与伊索尔德》《坎迪德》《货郎与小姐》《图兰朵》《魔笛》《后宫诱逃》《拉美莫尔的露琪亚》《弄臣》等。

在亨德尔的清唱剧《弥赛亚》等诸多重大演出活动中担任独唱、领唱。曾以中国艺术家身份出访奥地利、德国、俄罗斯、法国、意大利、斯洛文尼亚、美国、加拿大、日本、韩国、阿尔及利亚及港、澳、台等国家和地区。

在首届中国歌剧节中,主演的《红河谷》(饰演格桑);《青春之歌》(饰演余永泽);《原野》(饰演焦大星)三部歌剧同获优秀剧目奖,并获个人表演奖。在2011年、2013年文化部国家艺术院团展演中,主演的剧目《红河谷》《苏武》《原野》分获优秀剧目奖并两度获得个人优秀表演奖。主演的剧目还曾获得文化部文华大奖、文华新剧目奖、国家精品工程奖、优秀剧目奖等。

在奥地利沃尔夫冈艺术节大师班以第一名的成绩,获得优秀学员奖,受到了克丽斯塔·路德维希大师和詹姆斯·列文大师的赞誉。获法国政府资助,两度赴法系统学习了《国王》《浮士德》《罗密欧与朱丽叶》等法国剧目。得到过指挥大师米歇尔·普拉松、洛林·马泽尔、瓦莱里·捷杰耶夫;歌剧导演吉尔伯特·德弗洛、强卡洛·德·莫纳科等合作过的知名艺术大师的高度赞赏。


张峰  饰 父亲阿芒

曾主演国家大剧院制作歌剧《图兰朵》《奥赛罗》《卡门》《茶花女》《参孙与达丽拉》《歌女乔康达》等。

他是享有国际声誉的华人男中音,国家一级演员,现任上海歌剧院歌剧团团长、黄河科技大学音乐学院名誉院长,曾任意大利博萨国际艺术节艺术总监。2011年,意大利总统特别授予他“意大利共和国骑士勋章”。

1998年、2000年曾两次荣获布达佩斯国际声乐比赛一等奖,活跃在意大利、美国、德国、匈牙利等音乐舞台上。他已主演了《原野》《那时花开》《弄臣》《贾尼·斯基基》《唐·璜》《托斯卡》等20余部中外歌剧。他曾在采达指挥的《塞维利亚的理发师》中饰演费加罗,在尤斯图兹·弗朗兹指挥的德国国际爱乐乐团版贝多芬《第九交响曲》,以及《黄河大合唱》《中国,我可爱的母亲》《卡尔米娜布拉纳》中担任独唱。他曾参加在意大利举办的普契尼歌剧作品音乐会、意大利国庆60周年盛大庆典、“拿波里歌王”阿尔伯雷专场音乐会等重大演出。他还曾在意大利罗马、佛罗伦萨和纽约卡内基音乐厅、维也纳金色大厅、上海大剧院、上海东方艺术中心等举办独唱音乐会,曾在国家大剧院版歌剧电影《奥赛罗》中饰演亚戈。2015年2月,他在新加坡滨海艺术中心上演的中国歌剧《原野》中饰演仇虎,并获一致好评。


指挥:余隆

余隆是活跃于国际乐坛的最杰出的中国指挥家。现任中国爱乐乐团艺术总监和首席指挥、广州交响乐团音乐总监、上海交响乐团音乐总监和北京国际音乐节艺术总监、上海夏季音乐节艺术总监。

余隆是与世界顶尖级交响乐团合作最多的华人指挥家。他与世界各地众多知名交响乐团和歌剧院有着广泛合作,他指挥过的乐团有纽约爱乐乐团、芝加哥交响乐团、费城乐团、洛杉矶爱乐乐团、蒙特利尔交响乐团、华盛顿国家交响乐团、辛辛那提交响乐团、巴黎管弦乐团、班贝格交响乐团、汉堡国家歌剧院、柏林广播交响乐团、莱比锡广播交响乐团、慕尼黑爱乐乐团、悉尼交响乐团、BBC交响乐团、香港管弦乐团、东京爱乐乐团和新加坡交响乐团等。

余隆1964年出生于上海的音乐世家,自幼随外祖父、著名作曲家丁善德教授学习音乐。后求学于上海音乐学院和德国柏林高等艺术大学。先后受教于中国音乐教育家黄晓同教授和德国歌剧指挥家鲁宾斯坦教授等名师。出色的音乐天赋、优越的教育背景及广博的社会资源为余隆的艺术生涯奠定了坚实基础,使得他能够迅速成长为一位成就卓著的指挥家和音乐活动家。

余隆的艺术生涯涵盖指挥和艺术管理领域。1992年自德国学成回国后,余隆担任中央歌剧院常任指挥。同年,他创办了首届北京新年音乐会,并连续三年担任指挥,开启国内演出新年音乐会之先河。1993年起,余隆连续五年为香港市政局指挥歌剧演出。1998年,余隆发起并创办了北京国际音乐节,担任艺术总监。在他的出色领导下,北京国际音乐节不仅成为中国和亚洲规模最大的音乐节,也跻身于全球知名度最高的音乐节之列。在过去若干年间,金秋时节的北京国际音乐节上呈现了由众多著名乐团如柏林爱乐乐团和纽约爱乐乐团演出的精彩音乐会以及柏林德意志歌剧院、威尼斯凤凰歌剧院和圣彼得堡马林斯基剧院等带来的歌剧盛典,如《尼伯龙根的指环》、《玫瑰骑士》、《唐豪瑟》、《茶花女》、《纳布科》、《璐璐》和《姆钦斯克县的麦克白夫人》。

2000年,余隆参与创建了中国爱乐乐团,并担任艺术总监和首席指挥。余隆期望通过与众多世界知名音乐家的合作,使中国爱乐乐团发展成一个全能型职业化乐团,不仅向全世界介绍优秀的中国交响乐作品,也使得中国音乐家对西方音乐各时期及各种风格作品的演奏达到全新水准,并且在不同音乐形式上均有建树。余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团举行了许多大型作品的中国首演。2002年10月,作为第五届北京国际音乐节开幕式音乐会,余隆指挥包括中国爱乐乐团在内的近千名中外音乐家演出了马勒的第八《千人》交响曲,完成了这部宏伟巨作的历史性中国首演。从那时起,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团演奏了数百部古典音乐的文献作品,并被誉为中国诠释德奥作品的最权威的指挥家。

2001年9月,余隆率中国爱乐乐团在台湾地区举行了成功的巡回演出。2002年6月,余隆率中国爱乐乐团参加了波多黎各的卡萨尔斯音乐节,随后在圣何塞、洛杉矶等地进行了美国西海岸巡演。同年9月,余隆再次率中国爱乐乐团赴海外巡演,在日本东京、神户、大阪和韩国汉城演出,所到之处均深受欢迎,尤其是在东京三得利音乐厅的音乐会,赢得了包括日本皇室成员在内的两千余名日本听众的热烈喝采,取得了轰动性成功。2003年,余隆的一系列重要指挥活动包括与东京爱乐乐团合作并率该团在中国巡演。同年5月起,他在作为北京国际音乐节艺术总监与中国爱乐乐团艺术总监和首席指挥的同时兼任广州交响乐团音乐总监。9月,余隆率领中国爱乐乐团赴欧洲巡演,在著名的巴黎国家歌剧院、华沙国家大剧院和维也纳音乐之友协会金色大厅演出,获得巨大成功。11月至12月间,余隆与大提琴家米沙·麦斯基和广州交响乐团一道进行大规模巡演,在巴黎香榭丽舍剧院、卢森堡音乐学院音乐厅、荷兰阿姆斯特丹音乐厅、开罗歌剧院和亚历山大音乐厅演出。2005年2月至4月,余隆率领中国爱乐乐团进行了规模空前的环球世界巡演,历时四十多天,跨越北美和欧洲,不仅在中国乐团出访史上前所未有,在全亚洲交响乐团中亦属罕见。2008年5月7日,余隆指挥中国爱乐乐团和上海歌剧院合唱团在梵蒂冈城保罗六世礼堂为教宗本笃十六世及八千余名听众演出了莫扎特的《安魂曲》,成为令全世界瞩目的重要文化盛事。英国《卫报》称此次意义非凡的演出为“中梵借音乐外交‘破冰’”。2009年11月,余隆率领上海交响乐团在纽约、洛杉矶、多伦多、圣地亚哥等北美12座城市进行了极为成功的巡演,《纽约时报》在2009年11月9日刊载专文介绍余隆的艺术成就,将余隆誉为“中国的赫伯特·冯·卡拉扬”。2010年3月,余隆率上海交响乐团赴波兰参加第十四届贝多芬音乐节,并在华沙和罗兹两座城市演出,受到各界高度评价。2011年,余隆再次率中国爱乐乐团巡访美国西海岸十数个城市。2012年中国春节期间,余隆指挥纽约爱乐乐团在纽约林肯中心的菲舍尔音乐厅举行了首次中国新年音乐会,使得他的指挥艺术再一次在美国享受盛誉。

余隆作为指挥家以及交响乐团和音乐节的领导者多年来始终大力倡导当代音乐,他领导下的北京国际音乐节、中国爱乐乐团和广州交响乐团等机构和团体向当今最重要的作曲家委约创作,包括克里斯托夫·潘德列茨基、约翰·威廉姆斯、菲利普·格拉斯、霍华德·肖、郭文景、谭盾、叶小纲、赵季平、赵麟和陈银淑等,并由马友友、朗朗、朱利安·劳埃德-韦伯等当今最优秀的演奏家与中国爱乐乐团担任首演。在2011年,由余隆担任艺术总监的北京国际音乐节与波士顿歌剧院向作曲家周龙共同委约的歌剧《白蛇传》获得了普利策奖。

余隆指挥的录音包括德意志唱片公司录制发行、中国爱乐乐团演奏的勃拉姆斯G小调钢琴四重奏(阿诺德·勋伯格配器)和瓦格纳的《唐豪瑟》序曲、中国管弦乐作品集以及由郎朗担任钢琴独奏的钢琴协奏曲《黄河》。拿索斯公司发行有余隆指挥科恩格尔德的小提琴协奏曲和丁善德的《长征交响曲》。2012年,余隆主持的中国爱乐乐团100张CD和10张LP唱片的发行更开创了中国乐团录制鸿篇巨制的先河。

作为一位优秀的音乐家和知名人士,余隆亦把培养年轻音乐家和社会教育工作作为己任,每年他都会发掘和培养一批年轻音乐家与他领导的乐团合作,使年轻音乐家能够在最受瞩目的音乐平台上崭露头角。2007年余隆创办了广东国际音乐夏令营,2012年上海交响乐团与纽约爱乐乐团联合创办的乐队学院令众多的年轻音乐家心向往之。

由于把全能艺术家作为追求目标,余隆除却在中国爱乐乐团和北京国际音乐节出品的许多歌剧中担任指挥之外还亲自担任导演,尤其是2004年他导演并执棒中国爱乐乐团演出的歌剧《卡门》,以及2010年雷哈尔的轻歌剧《风流寡妇》均引起了空前的轰动。

鉴于余隆在推动当今世界古典音乐事业发展和促进国际间文化交流方面所做的突出贡献,2002年,德国万宝龙文化基金会向余隆颁发了年度“万宝龙卓越艺术成就奖”;2003年,法国政府特别授予余隆“法兰西文学艺术骑士勋章”;2005年,意大利政府向余隆颁发了“共和国骑士勋章”。2010年11月,中央音乐学院在其庆祝建院70周年大会上授予他中央音乐学院荣誉院士称号,以表彰他近十年来对中国音乐的发展和对外文化交流作出的杰出贡献。这是国内艺术大学首次颁发“荣誉院士”称号,余隆成为我国艺术家中获此殊荣的第一人。当年12月15日又被授予“2010年年度中国文化人物”大奖。

2013年,余隆获颁国家级学术机构主办的最高艺术大奖“中华艺文奖”。

现余隆是第十一、十二届全国政协委员,并担任中国音乐家协会副主席职务。

Song Yuanming has performed in NCPA's productions including Die Fledermaus, Turandot, La Bohème, L'italian in Algeri, Rickshaw Boy and Willam Tell.

Song Yuanming graduates from Specialty of Opera & Light Opera and Art Song & Oratorio n University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She was instructed by Professor Franz Lukasovsky and obtains the highest degree of Excellent Artist Performing Major in Specialty of Sound and Opera. Meanwhile, she completed courses of Flute and graduates from Prayner Konservatorium Vienna. She served as Vocal Music Professor in School of Music in Shandong College of Arts. She won six international awards, including the First Prize in Toulouse International Vocal Music Contest in France, First Prize and Best Singer Prize in Dvorak International Vocal Music Contest in Czech. She played in Salzburg International Art Festival, Schoenbrunn Schlosstheater, Glaeserner SaalMagna Auditorium, Graz Opera in Austria, Seoul and Busan Art Center, and Karlovy Vary Opera House in Czech. She cooperated with famous conductors like Wiener Phiharmoniker, Moody, Barenboim, and Valery Gergiev. She played in Don Juan, Le Nozze di Figaro, etc. She will star Hu Ling’er in the original opera Yongle, and Leonora in opera Il Trovatore staged in Hong Kong this year.


Jin Zhengjia, Alfredo

He has sung the role of Lenski in NCPA's production of Eugene Onegin, Gastone in the NCPA production of La Traviata, Tu Angu in NCPA opera The Chinese Orphan, Steuermann in NCPA's production of Der Fliegende Hollaender, Roderigo in NCPA's production of Otello. He is a national A-class performer in China as well as NCPA's resident artist.

Since 2005, Jin Zhengjian has sung Jiao Daxing in China's original opera Wild Prairie for more than 30 times in various versions of the opera, including the 20th anniversary version, NCPA concert version, and mini-theater version. 

In 2007, Jin participated in the premiere of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde in China, as the only Chinese performer in the opera and working with China Philharmonic and numerous world-class artists. In 2008, he performed in the premiere of the original Chinese opera Farewell to My Concubine (as Han Xin) in Beijing, and the six-city tour in the U.S., which was called the 'Ice-breaking Trip of Chinese Opera in America'. In April, 2008, he sang in the French opera Le roi d'Ys (as Mylio) in NCPA. His performance was highly praised by the French, and, as a consequence, he was sponsored by the French government to study in France. In June, 2008, he sang the leading role in the original Chinese operaGoodbye Again, Cambridge (as Xu Zhimo). In November, 2009, Goodbye  Again, Cambridge, with Jin as the leading role, was staged in the Multi-functional Theatre in NCPA. In May and September, 2009, he sang in the premiere and second public performance of the Chinese original opera The Song of Youth, successfully portraying two distinctively different characters, Lu Jiachuan and Yu Yongze, in the opera. In 2010 and 2011, he sang Gastone in La Traviata in NCPA.      

He has performed in many important events including Handel's oratorio Messiah as soloist or leading singer. As a Chinese artist, he has visited countries and regions including Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Slovenia, the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.   

The Fifth Sister, with Jin as the leading role, won the New Production Award and Grand Award of the Splendor Award in the 7th China Art Festival in 2004 and was named one of the 30 Works of Excellence on the Nation's Stage in 2005. In 1999, he was a finalist in the Japan Shizuoka International Singing Competition. As a Singer of Excellence, he took part in the Concert of Singers of Excellence in China zone of the Shen Xiang International Singing Competition.  

In 2000, he won a silver prize in the BBK Young Singer Competition held by CCTV. In the same year, he won a Lark Cup silver prize for professional singers. 


Zhang Feng, Germont

Zhang Feng has appeared in NCPA's Otello and Carmen. 

Zhang Feng studied with Zhou Xiaoyan and Xu Yi, the famous sopranos and vocal educators, and Mirella Freni, the world's top sopranos. He won the first award twice in 1998 and 2000 at the Hungary Budapest International Music Competition; he played Montague in Romeo and Juliet. His first own opera in 1996, and won praises from artists at home and abroad, and since then, he has started performing on the global opera stage. He has played more than 20 roles, including Figaro from The Barber of Seville, Gianni Schicchi from Gianni Schicchi, Escamillo from Carmen, the Baron Scarpia from Tosca, Armand Duval from The Lady of The Camellias, Don Juan from Don Juan, and Qiu Hu from The Wilderness by Cao Yu. His major performances also include: the premiere of Chinese opera The Wilderness in 1997; the Italian Melody hosted by the famous Italian soprano Katia Ricciarelli in 1998; the opening ceremony performance for the China Pavilion Day at Hannover World Expo in Germany in 2000; the solo concert successfully held at the Carnegie Hall in New York and the Asian Outstanding Young Singer Concert in 2001; a leading baritone singer of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with German Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Justus Franz in 2004; the performance in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Italian National Day, the concert tour of the Puccini Opera Collections, and the open-air solo concert at the Bosa International Art Festival in Italy in 2006; the singing of the Toreador Song at the Golden Hall of Vienna in 2007, which won standing ovation for three minutes, and then the Beautiful Song of Napoli concert invited by the vocal king Renzo Arbore in Italy's Viareggio; the three solo concerts successfully held in Italy's Rome and Sardinia in 2008. In 2011, the President of the Italy specially issued a certificate, conferring Zhang Feng the Knight of Italian Republic Medal, and commended him as "one of the best opera singers" in the awarding speech.  

Zhang Feng currently is a member of the Shanghai Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and vice chairman of Shanghai Youth Literature and Art Federation; he has won the Shanghai Artist award and the 15th Top Ten Shanghai Outstanding Youth award. 


 

Long Yu, conductor

As one of the most distinguished Chinese conductors with an established international reputation, Maestro Long Yu is currently Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival and Music in the Summer Air, MISA.

Long Yu is one of the conductors who conducts the world top-class orchestras most frequently, he has appeared with a prestigious list of leading orchestras and a lot of opera companies around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Montreal Symphony OrchestraWashington National Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg State Opera, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Leipzig, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Long Yu was born in 1964 into a family of musicians in Shanghai. Musical education in his early childhood came from his grandfather Ding Shande, a composer of great renown, and he later studied at the Shanghai Conservatory with Professor Xiaotong Huang and then studied at the Hochschule der Kunst in Berlin with Prof. Robinstein. Outstanding music talents, excellent educational background and extensive social resources make Long Yu a preeminent conductor.

Long Yu's career has included both artistic and administrative appointments. In 1992, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Central Opera Theatre in Beijing, and in the same year, he was involved in the planning of the first Beijing New Year's Concert and served as its conductor for three consecutive years. He also produced operas for The Urban Council of Hong Kong for five successive years. In 1998, he led the creation of the Beijing Music Festival and was its Founding Artistic Director. Under his leadership the Beijing Music Festival is regarded as the largest classical music festival in the eastern hemisphere and one of the world's most important music festivals. During the past 11years at this annual autumn festival there have been many splendid concerts given by leading orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic, as well as outstanding productions of the Ring, Der Rosenkavalier, Tannhäuser, La Traviata, Nabucco, Lulu and Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District by visiting opera companies including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro la Fenice and the Mariinsky Theatre.

In 2000, Long Yu co-founded the China Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. Now entering his 9th season with the China Philharmonic, he has maintained the high standard of orchestral performance and artistic administration and built the ensemble's reputation as not only a leading Chinese orchestra but also a world-famous one. In 2003, Long Yu was appointed the Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and he has been raising the level and fame of the orchestra rapidly. He toured extensively with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra as well as the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. In September 2003, under his leadership, the China Philharmonic Orchestra toured Europe, with memorable concerts at the Palais Garnier, Paris, the Teatr Wielki - National Opera Warsaw and the Grosser Saal of the Musikverein, Vienna. In December of the same year he undertook a major European and Egyptian tour with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Mischa Maisky, giving concerts at Theatre des Champs-Élysées, Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Cairo Opera House and Alexander Opera House. From February to April 2005, he led the China Philharmonic Orchestra on an international tour. Within 40 days they appeared in 22 cities throughout North America and Europe. In 2008, for the first time in history, the China Philharmonic Orchestra performed under the baton of maestro Long Yu at the Vatican in the Paul VI Auditorium. The concert was attended by The Holy Father Pope Benedict XIV and marked a giant step in bringing eastern and western cultures closer together. In April 2009 the China Philharmonic Orchestra was selected by the Gramophone, which is widely regarded as the best classical music magazine in the world, as one of "the world's 10 most inspiring orchestras". In November 2009 Long Yu led the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on a twelve-city North American tour which is a huge success. The tour began with the closing concert of the Ancient Paths, Modern Voices Festival at Carnegie Hall and included concerts in Los Angeles, Toronto and San Diego. A New York Times report from November 9, 2009 gave an introduction to Long Yu's artistic achievement and hailed him as "China's Herbert von Karajan." In March 2010 Long Yu conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at the 14th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Krakow and gave concerts in Warsaw and Lodz. All the performances won high praise from both audiences and critics. In 2011, Long Yu toured extensively with the China Philharmonic Orchestra in 8 cities in west coast of United States. In Chinese spring festival of 2012, Long Yu led the New York Philharmonic in the First Chinese New Year Concert at Avery Fisher Hall of Lincoln Center.

Maestro Long Yu's reputation has been enhanced by his activities as a widely admired and respected figure in administration of orchestras and festival as well as in international exchanging of musical culture. As a champion of contemporary music Long Yu has been commissioning a number of works from today's prominent composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Philip Glass, Guo Wenjing, Tan Dun, Ye Xiaogang and Unsuk Chin.

Mr. Long Yu's recordings include, on Deutsche Grammophon with the China Philharmonic, Brahms's Piano Quartet in G Minor (orch. Arnold Schoenberg) and Wagner's Tannhäuser Overture, highlights of Chinese symphonic music and Yellow River Concerto with Lang Lang as featured soloist. Recordings on Naxos include Korngold's Violin Concerto and Ding Shande's Long March Symphony. In 2012 Long Yu lead the release of CPO Live a 100-CD box set of the live performances in the past music seasons of China Philharmonic Orchestra, as a milestone of both the development of Chinese symphony orchestras and the recording industry in China.

Long Yu received the 2002 Montblanc Arts Patronage Award from the Montblanc Cultural Foundation, and in 2003 came Le grade de chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres (The Honor of Chevalier of French Art and Culture) from the Government of France. In 2005, Italian President honored Maestro Long Yu L'onorificenza di commendatore.

In November 2010, the Central Conservatory of Music has presented Maestro Long Yu with a certificate of the Honourable Academician from the Central Conservatory at a conference for 70th year anniversary of its founding, in recognition of his great contribution and devoted efforts to the development in classical music in China and cultural exchanges over the past decade. On December 2010, he was awarded People of the Year in Arts Field in China.

In 2013, Long Yu was awarded the national level arts award China Arts Award.

Long Yu is currently Vice-president of Chinese Musicians Association, member of the 11th and 12th the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
